Les fonderies de Rochefort

La réhabilitation des fonderies de Rochefort, entre 2007 et 2009, a été l’occasion d’interventions archéologiques auxquelles a participé une équipe de la Société de Géographie. Pour comprendre et guider les sondages, des recherches dans les archives ont été d’un précieux secours. En confrontant les deux types de témoignages, on peut donc reconstituer l’histoire de ce bâtiment industriel sur trois siècles, témoin de l’évolution des techniques et des politiques économiques et militaires de l’Etat mais aussi des mentalités.

The Rochefort foundry-works building

The overall rehabilitation scheme of the Rochefort foundry-works that took place between 2007 and 2009 created an opportunity for archeological on-site treatment to be conducted in collaboration with members of our Geographic Society. In order to provide enlightened guidelines to the various procedures elaborated on the spot, research-work in the archives proved very helpful.
Thanks to this twofold approach, it is now possible to reconstruct the history of this industrial building over three centuries, throwing light not only on the evolution of technology and economic and military policies as far as the State was concerned, but also on the evolution of social mores.
